Student that is ranked in another art, won’t take advice of Sempi?

Zenshin Academy asked:

We have an older gentlemen who is ranked about 4th dan in tkd, who takes our Aikido class. He will not take advice of myself, a Sempi at the Aikido school, or even the instructor. He insists that because of his “rank” he knows better than we do. I enjoy working out with the guy but I won’t correct him anymore. He flat out refuses to take any advice. This has been going on for over a year now. Am I wrong ? I’ll work out and train with him but will not correct him anymore. He is one that is going for his black belt (see other message) In all honesty, in my view, he will not pass. If he were to execute against someone with resistance he can never do the skill. Only when we let him will he “execute the tech”. Head instructor and the two Sempi had a meeting about this and I am just wondering how would you handle a student like this? He has been know to make comments about his rank in tkd, as if that translates to Aikido? Advice on this.
I am not in charge of anything at that school. I only help out as Sempi (Niban sempi at that) The head instructor and Ichiban have all the say. He’s been in class for several years now, and has never listened but now that he is “getting rank” it is getting worse.

rileyfickett asked:

I am attending a pre-college workshop at New Hampshire Institute of Art this summer and I have so many supplies I have to lug around campus! I’m trying to figure out what kind of bag/size of bag I should bring around with me but I’m having trouble chosing. It has to fit atleast two 9″x12″ sketchbooks and a number of pencils, paintbrishes, a paint palette, tubes of paint, and other art supplies. What do normal art students use?

Should I allow my art student son to paint and photograph me in the ****?

Nan asked:

I am a 39-year old, divorced, well preserved woman, and have had a minor modelling career too. My son, 19, has always been inclined towards the visual arts and is now undergoing a photographic art course. He is a fairly competent painter and photographer. Of late, he has been insisting on my posing in the **** for him. He is even insisting on my going about **** or semi **** in the house and taking my bath without locking the bathroom so he can see my body in all the postures for his photographs and paintings. I was shocked and scolded him, but he says there’s nothing wrong in it, because I have a great body – according to him – and that he wants it in front of his eyes all the time for his inspiration. What should I do?

An art student is given an assignment of altering a old book?

author Posted by: Admin on date Dec 13th, 2007 | filed Filed under: Art
benejueves asked:

the book is out dated and out of print. Plus the book is danish.
If the book is altered, the art student takes away and adds to the book, is it an infringement on the original author copywrites? Do the student have to contact the author/publisher/copywrite office of another country to get permission for this now altered book to get pictures taken of it?

shley343 asked:

I’ve heard of Universities paying models to pose **** for art classes and I want to do it! I go to UNT in Denton which is a very artsy school, so I’m sure there are more opportunities through my school compared to most, but I’m still not sure where to look?
Oh geez, I was really hoping for some serious help here.

Amanda asked:

How much do paintings or photographs cost at a student art gallery? - an estimate of course I know it varies. I’m interested in buying some pieces but it is closed this week b/c of bad weather so I was hoping to get an idea of the prices before I decide that’s the way I want to go.

I’m an Art student and I **** college so much?

Stay Cool asked:

I’m in a university and I’m getting A’s in all of my classes, so my grades aren’t the problem. I’ve already had 2 of my midterms and I got A’s on both of those. I like hard school work, so like I said, I’m not worried about my grades at all.

I really don’t like being in college. I have a feeling that if I transferred, then I would like that college either. What I really want to do is just move to Chicago and pursue a career in art and music, but I don’t have any money to move, I don’t have a car, and I wouldn’t have anywhere to live. If I did have a place to live, I wouldn’t be able to pay for it because working at McDonald’s or someplace like that wouldn’t be enough money to pay the rent.

I am so stuck and I don’t have anybody to talk to that wouldn’t just listen to me instead of trying to persuade me to stay in college. Honestly, I don’t believe it when people say “Oh, you’ll make more money and have a better job if you stay in college.” That’s not true because there are people right now who have their B.A. or their M.A. and absoulutely **** their jobs.

Please, help. Any thoughtdul advice or suggestions would help.
